What is surplus fabric?

Surplus fabric, sometimes called deadstock, is unused material that already exists.

It can be left over from production, over-ordered by brands or sitting unused in mills and warehouses.

According to Circular Sourcing’s 2022 Australian Surplus Textile Survey, at least 10 million kilograms of unused pre-consumer textile surplus accumulates in Australia each year.

We couldn’t justify making new fabric when something this good already exists. So we didn’t.

Details

Outer fabric: 100% Australian wool, sourced from Circular Sourcing. Grown and spun in Australia, originally produced by Life Textiles for the upholstery industry.
Cap visor: 100% cotton base fabric with formaldehyde-free, heat-fusible resin interlining.
Thread: 100% cotton.
Seams: 100% ripstop cotton.
Woven label: 100% pure OEKO-TEX® certified cotton, made in Germany.

Care

Spot clean only.
Line dry in shade.
Do not bleach or soak.
Do not tumble dry.
Steam to restore shape.

The PROJECT.SARDINE Harvest Hat is available in two sizes: Small and Medium. Our size guide can be found in the product images.

Sizing is based on the internal opening of the hat. As this is a soft, relaxed style, each size allows a little extra room for comfort.

Small

60 cm internal opening
Best suited to a head circumference of approximately 55–57 cm

Medium

64 cm internal opening
Best suited to a head circumference of approximately 58–61 cm

If you're between sizes, we recommend sizing up for a more relaxed fit or sizing down for a more secure fit.

How to measure

Using a soft tape measure or a piece of string, measure around the widest part of your head, across the mid-forehead and just above your ears. Compare your measurement with the size guide in the product images to find your best fit.

Returns/Exchanges

We hope you love your purchases, but on the off chance you don't or you need a different size, we can offer a refund, or an exchange if we have stock available.

To be eligible for a return you have 21 days after receiving your item to request a return. Items must be in original condition, with tags attached, unwashed and unworn.
The cost of returns or exchange is covered by the customer. We will cover the cost if the item is damaged or faulty.
